REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MALANG -- The synergy between the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) and the Malang Koi Club successfully held the Malang Koi Show in Malang, Saturday (27/8). A total of 1,700 koi fish entered in this contest were released in the aquarium.
Malang Koi Show is a competition event and is one of three series of events available. The other two were the koi business meeting and the launch of the Koi Center of Excellence (CoE) owned by the UMM Aquaculture Study Program.
There are a number of prestigious trophies up for grabs, starting from the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, the KKP RI Director General of Fisheries Cultivation Trophy, the Malang Regent's Cup, the UMM Chancellor's Cup, to the Indonesian Gospel Institute Rector's Cup.
UMM Chancellor, Fauzan said, Malang Koi Show became one of the driving energies for the professional class of koi to develop. Moreover, so far, UMM is the only university that has CoE Koi.
The development of dozens of CoEs at UMM is not without reason. Fauzan emphasized that 2030 will be the beginning of the peak of the demographic bonus. So with CoE, it is hoped that qualified human resources (HR) will be born in welcoming the demographic bonus.
According to him, currently university graduates have not adequately answered the problems in society and the needs of the Business and Industrial World (DUDI). Most of them have to undergo training for six months to a year in order to become ready-to-use human resources in accordance with industry needs.
Therefore, dozens of professional school CoEs from UMM were present to answer that question. "When people need human resources who are experts in the field of koi fish, UMM can provide them. Likewise in the fields of orchids, cocoa, shrimp, poultry, and others," said Fauzan, Saturday (27/8).
Malang Regent M Sanusi assessed that UMM always captures the potential and opportunities that can be developed. One of them is evidenced by the launch of the CoE School of Koi expertise.
From an economic point of view, he said, the fish business is quite profitable. When compared with the income of rice farmers, in six months it reaches Rp. 40 million and Rp. 80 million a year. Then the fish business is certainly profitable, especially in the koi fish business.
"So, the Malang Koi Show is a good agenda to develop the koi fish business and as an educational effort," he said.
