Along with global population growth and increasing awareness of the importance of fisheries resources, demand for fishery products continues to increase. Aquaculture graduates have the opportunity to work in various sectors, including pond management, fish cultivation, planning and development of fisheries areas, research and development of aquaculture technology innovations, as well as consulting and management of fisheries resource sustainability.
In addition, awareness of sustainability and environmentally friendly farming practices is increasingly dominating the aquaculture industry. Alumni of the Aquaculture study program can be involved in innovative businesses such as organic fish cultivation, aquaponic systems, and the application of advanced technology to increase production efficiency and reduce environmental impacts. Technological developments such as the use of sensors, artificial intelligence and automation also open the door for Aquaculture graduates to contribute to the industrial revolution 4.0 in the fisheries sector. The following is a list of professions and careers that can be achieved by graduates of the UMM Aquaculture Study Program:
1. Entrepreneur cultivating aquatic organisms (food fish, ornamental fish, shrimp, seaweed, shellfish)
2. Company Manager (fish farming, feed company, hatchery, fishery product distribution, exporter)
3. Goverment Officer/Civil Servants (in various Government Institutions related to fisheries at regional, provincial and ministerial levels)
4. Lecturer/Teacher (being a teaching staff at various levels of education)
5. Researcher (becoming a researcher in various government/PNS, private/university institutions, or NGOs).
Based on regulations set by the Ministry of Higher Education, graduates of the Aquaculture Study Program will receive the title "Bachelor of Fisheries" or abbreviated as "S.Pi"
Graduates of the UMM Aquaculture Department have a BNSP (National Professional Certification Agency) competency certificate implemented by the UMM LSP (Professional Certification Institute) with the "Fish Feed Management" scheme & "Fish Cultivator Technician" scheme.
