Professional Class of Shrimp


 

The Professional Class of Shrimp is one of the Centers of Excellence (CoE) or the Special Program of the Departement of Aquaculture UMM. Where the program is intended to produce graduates who are competent, ready to use and professional in the shrimp industry. The class is run based on a curriculum with a one-semester special course designed to be able to answer challenges in the shrimp industry. With professional teacher, collaboration between Departement of Aquaculture UMM and practician from Industrial Shrimp Partner. Professional Class of Shrimp involved more than 17 partners from Industry and government agencies. Professional Class of Shrimp as CoE was formulated based on internal and external potential studies, government policies, future professional trends, results of graduate tracking, testimonials and input from graduate users. From the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that graduates who have shrimp competence are needed, are in high demand now or in the future and have very good welfare. After taking 1 semester of lectures on shrimp, the program then continued with industrial work practices for 6 months. The duration of the practical work is designed so that each apprentice is involved in at least 1 cycle of cultivation (4 months) and 2 months for deepening. In addition, when running the program, participants are also asked to dig up data and carry out research so that when students finish their internship, they can prepare a final project report. The proudest thing is that with the 2 semesters of student training specifically on shrimp, a number of participants immediately received job offers from industrial partners where they practiced. This proves that The Professional Class of Shrimp by The Departement of Aquaculture UMM is able to produce competent graduates who are able to meet the expectations of industrial partners for superior human resources.
